What do you think of a lawyer who tells an opposing pro se party that it is okay to ignore a deadline?

If the lawyer says that a time deadline imposed by a judge in an order is "flexible." what would you think?

Would you think that the lawyer and perhaps the court would be bending the written Rules of Court on other matters, so that the pro se person would have no way of knowing what the real operational rules were? How often do lawyers stray from adhering to proceedural rules, and are they usually allowed to do so if the are proceeding against a pro se party?

The pro se party is a goat in a field of lions. He has to know his own way around the system or get really put upon by legal tricksters like the one you have described.

I'm afraid that is business as usual. There are no flexible deadlines. Either you make it or you drown.

Guess I'm in the wrong legal arena. I do not know what a pro se party is, but don't US lawyers have ethical rules which they have to follow?

Happens all the time... everybody tries to get along to get things done, especially lawyers.
